The Law Offices of Stephen J. Weymouth provides aggressive, cost-effective, and reliable legal services for its clients in a vast array of criminal defense matters and civil-related matters, including personal injury, divorce, and real estate cases.

Assault & Battery

Assault and battery are categorized as crimes against the person under the General Laws of Massachusetts.  Assault can be either the attempt to use physical force on another person, or the threat of using force by demonstrating an intent to use force.  Battery, however, involves the actual unlawful use of force, resulting in harmful or unpermitted touching of another.  Both types of crimes are serious, and if convicted of an assault and battery, can result in up to 2 ½ years in a house of correction or a fine of $1,000.  For a detailed discussion on assault and battery charges and other criminal charges, see this page.

Drug Charges

Drug charges can result in jail time and negatively impact other aspects of a person's life.  If convicted of a drug charge, it might be difficult for the person to find or retain employment, or the person may be subject to deportation if they are not a U.S. Citizen.  These charges range from drug possession to possessing drugs with the intent to sell and drug manufacturing cases.  Because of the serious nature of these charges, it is important to contact a qualified criminal defense lawyer when charged with a drug offense.

Federal Charges

Both the state and the federal government have a list of criminal offenses that are found punishable by law.  For example, Title 18 of the United States Code, lists federal charges, including assault, arson, and embezzlement and theft.  If convicted by the U.S. government, a person can face imprisonment or fines, or both.  Please visit this page for a detailed discussion of federal charges.

Firearms & Weapons Charges

Firearms and weapons charges include the unlawful possession of a firearm, sale of firearms, defacement of a firearm serial number, and unlawfully carrying a dangerous weapon.  A person charged with a weapons charge may face several years in prison and confiscation of the weapons in question.

Juvenile Delinquency and Youthful Offender

The Juvenile Court of Massachusetts handles juvenile delinquency matters, which are matters that involve children between the ages of 7 and 17 who are charged with violating a state law or city ordinance.  The juvenile system has its own set of laws and consequences separate from the set of criminal statutes adults face.  These rules may be found under Chapter 119, Sections 52 to 84 of the General Laws of Massachusetts.  Children who are found delinquent or "guilty," will be placed on probation or committed to the Department of Youth Services.  However, minors who are between the ages of 14 and 17 and are charged with committing serious crimes can be prosecuted as a youthful offender, meaning they may be given adult sentences.

OUI/DUI Offenses

Operating Under the Influence (OUI) of alcohol or drug offenses, also known as driving under the influence (DUI) cases can result in serious penalties, including jail time, fines, and the revocation of driving privileges.  Because these penalties can have a significant impact on a person's life, if you are charged with an OUI, contact the Law Offices of Stephen J. Weymouth to consult with an experienced criminal defense lawyer with the knowledge and experience to successfully challenge OUI/DUI charges.  For a detailed discussion on OUI/DUI cases and other criminal offenses, view this page.

The term white collar crime refers to crimes that are nonviolent that are committed for the purpose of financial gain.  Such crimes include credit card fraud, embezzlement, extortion, forgery, identity theft, insurance fraud, forgery, and money laundering.
